I'm a little late on the #Worldmentalhealthday2018, but I don't think there is ever a bad day to discuss this topic. I myself have struggled with mental health issues; depression, anxiety and suicide. I think it's time to really educate ourselves about this. How to identify it in ourselves and others. The days of "oh it'll be ok, you're just sensitive" "oh you just need to stop messing with that boy\girl" "you just need to move back home" days are gone. None of that ever works. What works is a support system that will tell you who you really are and not what the voices in your head are saying. A support system that will also hold you accountable for your actions and not allow you to play the victim role. The fight against mental issues is different for each person. Some, look to medication, some look to therapy. Me personally, it took a bit of it all.
There is nothing wrong with going to therapy. I had to jump that hurdle. Where I'm from "weak minded" ppl go to therapy. WRONG! It's ok to take meds. I had to jump that hurdle too. Where I'm from "crazy ppl" take meds. Seek out professional help and learn what works for you.
Now to the those that don't suffer from mental health issues, what can you do to help someone that does have issues? Love on them! Love on them, love on them, love on them! Criticism is not the answer. Support them, encourage them, show them their worth, make them laugh.
It's all good until the issue is on your front step. Educate yourself and others, cause it may be walking up to your front door as you read this.
Remember, it's ok to NOT be ok
